I found the small city of Arles to be one of France’s most charming cities. Arles is prominent for its rich Franco-Roman heritage (including a gigantic and still functioning arena) as well as being Van Gogh’s residence for over a year. There, apart from losing one his earlobes (deliberately or in a fight with Gauguin) one of the greatest painters of all times created some of his most celebrated works. In addition, Arles offers many narrow, rustic and incredibly beautiful streets and on top of that, houses the respected “École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie”. Not bad for such a small city!
