The Jesus Project – Part One
The shear variety with which artists have portrayed Jesus, is indeed intriguing. Although the majority of these works are at best unremarkable, one can still spot numerous paintings and sculptures which have demonstrated Jesus in a unique, daring and creative way.
From tonight until the Christmas, I will post thirteen selected photos in which Jesus have been portrayed in a distinctive, different or interesting way.

I wish that you enjoy and follow this virtual exhibition, on a daily basis. As always, your comments and feedbacks are immensely appreciated.

I would like to begin this collection with one of the most striking paintings of all time, Grunewald’s “Retable d’Issenheim”. In this exquisite painting, Jesus’ body on the cross has been depicted, not as it was customary: serene, glowing and spiritual, but instead, discolored, out-of-proportion and hideously deformed; the ultimate expression of pain and suffering.
